About Sun Mountain Design Group

Sun Mountain Design Group traces its roots back more than 50 years in Colorado Springs as the architectural group at Art C. Klein Construction. Built on a foundation of design excellence and construction knowledge, the firm developed a unique understanding of how thoughtful architectural solutions are translated into successful built environments. 

In 2021, Kyle Hanson, AIA, assumed leadership of the firm and expanded the practice into an architecture and interior design studio while continuing the collaborative relationship with Art C. Klein Construction. Today, SMDG builds upon that foundation with a carefully assembled team bringing decades of professional architectural experience across a diverse range of project types. 

Our history shapes our approach—integrating creative vision, technical expertise, and practical construction insight to create designs that are thoughtfully conceived, carefully coordinated, and successfully realized. SMDG continues to collaborate with Art C. Klein Construction while also partnering with other contractors through Design-Build delivery and providing documents for competitively bid projects. 

Kyle Hanson, AIA 

Principal Architect

Experience 

Before moving to Colorado in 2020, Kyle spent nearly a decade in New York City working for award-winning design firms specializing in luxury, high-performance developments. He has contributed to landmark developments in several major cities, including Washington D.C., New York City, San Francisco, and Houston. As the Architect of Record for hundreds of projects in Colorado, his portfolio includes mixed-use commercial, luxury residential, high-rise, educational, medical, religious, multifamily, hospitality, historic preservation, and master planning projects. He also has extensive experience leading complex developments through Colorado's entitlement process and has also served as an Owner's Representative, providing leadership from planning and design through construction to ensure successful project delivery. 

Role at the Company 

As Principal Architect of Sun Mountain Design Group, Kyle leads the firm's client relations and company operations while remaining actively involved throughout the design process. From programming through construction administration, Kyle provides leadership at every stage of project delivery. He incorporates advanced three-dimensional building information modeling (BIM) and visualization into every project, using digital models as a critical design tool and to clearly communicate design intent with clients. These models play a vital role in client presentations and project coordination, resulting in cost-effective solutions that balance design excellence, functionality, schedule, and budget. 

Education and Affiliations 

Kyle earned his BARCH, with a minor in Business Administration, from the University of Oregon, and attended the Danish Institute for Study Abroad in Copenhagen. He is a licensed architect in Colorado and California and holds NCARB certification. Kyle is an active member of AIA and HBA, bringing his expertise to the local construction community. 



Personal Life 

Kyle lives in Colorado Springs with his wife, Gabrielle, their son, Xavier, and their two dogs, Luca and Leo. His greatest passion is international travel, considering it a privilege to experience new cultures and the natural beauty that our world offers. In his free time, he likes to explore the Colorado landscape through family camping trips, mountain biking, snowboarding, and extended backpacking. 

Sarrah Peariso 

Architect

Experience 

Sarrah has over 20 years of experience as an architect working on both custom residential and a variety of commercial projects. She brings her energy, personal commitment and professional excellence to each project. Sarrah has vast experience designing high-end custom residential home throughout California and Colorado. Prior to joining the firm, Sarrah ran her own architectural firm in California. 

Role at the Company 

At Sun Mountain Design Group, Sarrah is the lead architect for all custom residential projects. She guides clients through every stage of the custom home design process—from the initial vision and conceptual design to construction and project completion. She also leads the firm's interior design team, bringing a unique perspective that seamlessly integrates architecture and interiors. Sarrah believes that successful projects are those in which the architecture and interior design evolve together, creating timeless, functional spaces that feel cohesive in every detail. Her goal is to transform each client's ideas into a home that is both beautiful and uniquely their own while thoughtfully balancing design, budget, and project goals. 

Education and Affiliations 

Sarrah earned her Bachelor of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), while there she completed a yearlong study abroad program in Ticino, Switzerland. She is a licensed architect in Colorado and California and holds certification through the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). She is an active member of the HBA of Colorado Springs and has served on a variety of planning, review, and advisory boards, including the Visalia Planning Commission. 

Personal Life 

When she's practicing architecture, Sarrah enjoys spending time with family and friends, giving back to her community, and taking advantage of Colorado's incredible outdoor lifestyle. Her appreciation for the region's natural beauty continues to inspire her work, creating buildings that connect with their surroundings and the people who live in them. 

Ronald O'Neill

Commercial Project Manager

Experience 

Ronald (Ron) O'Neill brings more than 20 years of experience in the architecture industry, specializing in commercial developments and design-build collaboration. His career is built on a strong foundation of practical construction knowledge, having gained hands-on experience in commercial remodeling before transitioning into architecture. This unique combination of field and design experience allows him to approach projects with both technical precision and creative vision. 

Throughout his career, Ron has worked on a diverse range of projects, including historic restoration and adaptive reuse, large-site and park planning, commercial developments, and automotive dealership renovations that align with the latest brand standards. Known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering quality results, Ron consistently strives to complete projects efficiently while maintaining the highest professional standards. 

Role at the Company 

As Commercial Project Manager at Sun Mountain Design Group, Ron transforms clients' ideas into thoughtfully designed, code-compliant construction documents. He oversees projects from the conceptual proposal stage through construction documentation, ensuring that each design meets regional codes and project objectives. 

Ron works closely with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing consultants to coordinate every aspect of a project. His ability to bridge the communication gap between design professionals, contractors, clients, and governing agencies helps create a smooth and efficient project delivery process from start to finish. 

Education and Affiliations 

Ron earned his Associate of Applied Science degree in Architecture from IntelliTec College in Colorado Springs in 2004 and has been working in the architectural profession ever since. He is highly proficient in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drafting and Autodesk Revit 3D modeling, continually expanding his expertise through software certifications and ongoing professional training. 

Having worked alongside some of Colorado's most respected architects, Ron has developed a practical, solutions-driven approach that balances creativity, constructability, and economic efficiency. 

Personal Life 

Outside the office, Ron's greatest passion is his family. He and his wife are raising their two youngest children together, and he is the proud father of six and grandfather of four. As a longtime Colorado resident, Ron enjoys connecting with people in his community while also appreciating the peace and beauty of the outdoors. Whether camping, fishing, or spending time in Colorado's mountains, he finds inspiration in the divine landscapes that have shaped both his personal life and professional career. 

Ali Alzainaldeen, AIA

Residential Project Manager

Experience 

Since beginning his architectural career in 2018, Ali has gained experience across a diverse range of project types, including custom residential, multifamily, mixed-use, healthcare, and senior living developments throughout the western United States. His portfolio includes luxury custom homes, affordable senior housing, memory care communities, transit-oriented developments, and large-scale multifamily projects, providing him with a well-rounded understanding of residential design, technical coordination, and project delivery. Throughout his career, Ali has worked closely with architects, consultants, contractors, and clients to develop thoughtful design solutions that balance aesthetics, functionality, constructability, and project goals.

Role at the Company 

As a Project Manager at Sun Mountain Design Group, Ali leads projects from initial design through construction administration. He is responsible for coordinating with consultants, preparing construction documents, managing permitting efforts, and maintaining communication between clients, engineers, and contractors throughout the design and construction process. Ali incorporates advanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) into every project, using coordinated digital models to improve project accuracy, streamline consultant coordination, and resolve design challenges before construction begins. His collaborative approach and attention to detail help create efficient project workflows while delivering projects that reflect each client's vision, budget, and lifestyle.

Education and Affiliations 

Ali earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Colorado Denver. He holds certification through the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He is currently working toward architectural licensure while continuing to expand his technical expertise and project leadership within the profession. 

Personal Life 

Ali lives in Colorado, where he enjoys taking advantage of the state's outdoor lifestyle through trail running, hiking, camping, and exploring the mountains. He has a passion for endurance sports and continually challenges himself by training for trail races throughout Colorado. His appreciation for nature, thoughtful design, and continuous personal growth influences both his professional work and his approach to creating spaces that are functional, enduring, and connected to their surroundings.

Luca

Office Manager

Experience 

Luca has years of experience boosting office morale, greeting clients, and ensuring every visitor feels welcome. His leadership style is approachable yet persistent, particularly when treats are involved and he continues his professional development through ongoing studies in Meeting Interruptions.

He believes every successful project deserves a celebration, every visitor deserves a warm welcome, and every lunch break is better when shared.

Role at the Company 

Luca has served as our Office Manager since joining the firm, where he quickly established himself as the undisputed leader in employee morale, workplace security, and strategic snack acquisition. With an uncanny ability to know exactly when someone needs a break, he keeps the office running smoothly through regular wellness checks, enthusiastic client greetings, and mandatory midday walks.

Luca’s favorite office perks include belly rubs, treats from generous coworkers, and ensuring no one works too long without taking a well-earned break.

Personal Life 

Outside the office, Luca enjoys hiking Colorado trails, chasing squirrels with unmatched determination, perfecting the art of the afternoon nap, and spending quality time with his family.
